Minister of Social Development Meets U.S. Expert Dr. Ludy GreenOctober 7, 2009Minister of Social Development Hala Lattouf today met with the President & founder of the U.S.-based Second Chance Employment Services, Dr. Ludy Green, who is visiting Jordan upon an invitation from the U.S. Embassy. Dr. Green shared with Minister Lattouf her experience in establishing shelters and updated her on the workshops she held with Jordan's newly formed inter-ministerial working committee to establish a shelter for victims of trafficking in persons. During her visit to Jordan, Dr. Green is meeting with government and business leaders, international organizations, diplomatic missions, academics, and NGOs to discuss violence against women, as well as the financial independence for women as a solution to this global problem. At a seminar at the University of Jordan Oct. 5, Dr. Green said, "These issues are not just women's issues; they are issues that men and women can work to solve together. And they are not limited to one country or one class, so I am pleased that more people are recognizing the need to address and collaborate on this global problem." Dr. Green is the founder & president of the Second Chance Employment Service(SCES), a not-for-profit organization in Washington DC that provides meaningful employment for battered and abused women.
