Building STRONGER GENERATIONS for at-risk women

Female Football Star Katie Hnida to be Keynote Speaker at Last Kiss of Summer 2010 Gala

September 24, 2010

Georgetown, Washington D.C.:
On September 24, 2010, Second Chance Employment Services will hold its annual black tie gala to benefit programs that secure financial independence for victims of domestic abuse.

Second Chance is thrilled to announce that this year's keynote speaker will be Katie Hnida, former spokesperson for Lifetime Television, who gained fame as the first women ever to score in an NCAA Division 1-A football game for the University of New Mexico.

Soon after making history as a scoring female kicker in college football, Katie Hnida came forward with her encounters of sexual harassment by teammates. Her memoir, “Still Kicking: My Dramatic Journey As the First Woman to Play Division One College Football,” reveals her journey on becoming one of the most celebrated athletes in the world of male dominated college football. Today, Hnida serves as a role model to young women, as well as continuing her work as a spokesperson for raising awareness on sexual assault and violence against women.

The 2010 Last Kiss of Summer gala will be held at the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown on Thursday, September 24, 2010. Every year this black tie event brings together politicians, heads of industry, and celebrities from across the U.S. for an evening of fine dinning, dancing, and a silent auction, all to benefit the important work of Second Chance.

"Without financial independence there's no end to domestic violence. Meaningful careers empower women to become self-sufficient so they can never suffer abuse again." – Ludy Green, PhD
