EXCLUSIVE WHITE HOUSE BRIEFING FOR SECOND CHANCE BOARD

Washington, D.C.: At the invitation of Lynn Rosenthal, White House Advisor on Violence Against Women, a small group of Second Chance Employment Services board members met to discuss White House priorities for working to end domestic violence.

Rosenthal shared Vice President Biden’s views on the importance of financial independence for victims of domestic violence, and the need to achieve that through employment – the core mission of Second Chance. She stated that the White House is seeking ways to promote employment for victims as a key to ending domestic violence and achieving the goals of the Violence Against Women Act.

While our 2008 and 2009 briefings were open to approximately 100 Second Chance supporters, this year Rosenthal requested that the meeting be limited to 7 people, signifying her intent to meaningfully and directly communicate White House priorities with our cutting edge organization – the only organization that actively places domestic violence survivors and other at-risk women in meaningful employment positions.

Second Chance job partner Booz Allen Hamilton, joined us at the meeting as well. Booz Allen has agreed to place 100 Second Chance clients and was the principal sponsor for our largest fundraiser, the Last Kiss of Summer Gala, held September 23, 2010.

Board members present were Chairman, Ronald S. Perlman, M.D., the Honorable H. Mark Kennedy (former Alabama Supreme Court Justice), Peggy Wallace Kennedy (daughter of former Alabama governor, George Wallace), Rich Massabny (television host and producer), and our President and Founder, Dr. Ludy Green. www.ludygreen.com
