2009 Washington Area Women's Foundation Leadership Awards
april 7, 2009
"A signature program of The Women's Foundation, the Leadership Awards recognize local nonprofits demonstrating innovation or measurable success in their service of women and girls. At the heart of this grassroots program is a commitment to rewarding outstanding-but undiscovered-organizations positively impacting women and girls, and engaging the donor community in substantive grantmaking and philanthropic learning." (WAWF)
Second Chance Employment Services, the nation's only nonprofit employment agency serving domestic violence victims, is honored to receive this recognition from the WAWF. Since our inception in 2002, Second Chance has been the leader in the movement to end domestic violence through the economic empowerment of women. To date, Second Chance has placed over 500 women in meaningful, career-track employment with full health benefits, and has helped over 2,000 women through our extensive referral services.
Without the support of our Job Partners who open the doors of employment to our clients, our Community Partners who provide all the necessary services our clients need to land a job, our donors who ensure funding for important programs, and our team of volunteers working tirelessly to give our clients a second chance at a fulfilling life without violence, Second Chance would not have been able to serve so many women, nor to receive this Leadership Award from the Washington Area Women's Foundation. For this reason, we offer up a special thanks to everyone who has been so pivotal in the success of Second Chance, and in rebuilding the shattered lives of victims of domestic violence.
